2024 BLIZZARD FIREBIRD WRC SKIS
The 2024 Blizzard Firebird WRC is brand new from top to bottom, with changes made to both its construction and shape. Frontside skiers will be happy to hear that it is still as burly as ever, from tip to tail and edge to edge. The Firebird WRC can be classified as a recreational race ski or put more simply, a high performing beer-league giant slalom ski. Designed for carving between gates and outside of them, the Firebird WRC is a highly specific ski that is precise and powerful. Best suited for advanced to expert level skiers with a racing background or an affinity for carving, the WRC is a great option to round out your quiver for the strictly carving application. The changes made to the ski has made it more refined and higher performing in terms of carving ability and high-speed performance, which is always what you like to see in a dedicated frontside beer-league race ski.

The Blizzard Firebird WRC has been known to be one of the strongest frontside recreation race skis on the market for quite some time. With the changes to its construction for 2024, that reputation has not changed. Instead, the changes to the core of the ski have made the WRC even more intuitive with a refined flex pattern that is finely tuned to the style of skiing that it is designed for. To accomplish this, Blizzard incorporates their TrueBlend Frontside Woodcore, which consists of a multi-stringer lay-up of ash and poplar: 3 stringers of ash and 3 of poplar. Within the TrueBlend Woodcore, C-Spine or Carbon Spine is vertically integrated between the stringers to beef up the stiffness of the ski. Sandwiching the core are two titanal laminates to add even more stiffness and torsional rigidity. Finally, Carbon Armor is added below the track binding boosting stiffness and stability to that area. All in all, the construction makes for one heck of a burly ski that directly translates to carving performance and energy. The titanal laminates, TrueBlend Woodcore, and C-Armor make the WRC have endless edge grip and incredible energy release at the exit of the turn. While the C-Spine, TrueBlend core, titanal laminates, and C-Armor make the ski longitudinally stiff for high speed stability and energy release. Altogether the Firebird WRC does not mess around and wants to be pushed as hard as possible, the more you put in, the more you will get out of it.

Blizzard made some slight alterations to the shape of the Firebird WRC for 2024 to better complement its new construction. The frontside camber profile carries over as this ski needs to have as long of an effective edge as possible as well as much stored energy as possible. The sidecut is where the slight adjustments were made to both the forebody and tail widths. The WRC’s sidecut for 2024 includes a forebody width of 115.5mm, a waist width of 68mm, and a tail width of 98mm which produces a turning radius of 17.5 meters. The tip to tail taper in terms of difference in width assists with turn initiation and release with the narrow waist width making edge to edge quickness smooth and quick. The 17.5 meter turn radius sits right in the sweet spot between FIS giant slalom and slalom courses which is perfect for recreation race league layouts.
If you an advanced to expert level skier who is looking for a beer league racing ski or early morning carving ski, the new 2024 Blizzard Firebird WRC has a race-like build with a more approachable and versatile flex pattern. With the new TrueBlend Woodcore, titanal laminates, and carbon reinforcements, these beasts have a ton of energy that is ready to be unleashed.
