DESCRIPTION

The 2026 DPS Pisteworks 79 with Marker COMP 12 GW Bindings is a carving-specific frontside ski that delivers speed, snap, and surgical precision on firm snow. Designed for quick edge-to-edge transitions and high-energy arcs, this is the narrowest and most frontside-carving-oriented model in DPS’s Pisteworks collection. With a 79 mm waist, tight 13.5-meter radius, and carbon construction, it’s built to rip groomers with confidence and finesse. We paired the Pisteworks 79 with the Marker Comp 12 because of this binding’s precision and power for aggressive piste skiers who require a lower DIN setting. The fact that the lighter-duty Comp 12 utilizes some of Marker’s best race tech to ensure that performance, safety, and proper release are of the highest priority makes it a perfect pairing with this ski.

Why we like it:

The Pisteworks 79 delivers the energy and reactiveness of a race ski—without the punishing stiffness. It’s one of the most agile and engaging carving skis we’ve tested, thanks to its reactive carbon chassis and efficient turn shape. Whether you're laying trenches or slicing technical turns, it feels fast, smooth, and rewarding.

Who it's for:

Perfect for advanced to expert skiers, or strong intermediates with a technical approach, who crave carving performance on groomed terrain. If you like your skis quick, energetic, and frontside-focused, this one’s for you.

Highlights:

Built with a full carbon layup and DPS’s recycled Carbon Power Plate, the Pisteworks 79 offers lively rebound without excess weight. Its 79 mm waist and short 13.5-meter radius deliver lightning-fast transitions and high edge angles. The low rocker profile keeps 80% of the edge on snow for optimal grip, and the compliant flex makes it fun to drive without feeling harsh or demanding. The Marker Comp 12 binding is loaded with tech that comes directly out of the race room. The Comp Toe piece functions to absorb vibrations and feedback from the snow, keeping the boot stable and centered. The TwinCam X heel piece is designed with greater elasticity in the release, which increases binding-to-boot connectivity for more control throughout the turn. Finally, the Gliding AFD ensures a precise release that’s unhindered by snow or ice buildup.

Things to consider:

This is not your one-ski quiver—it’s purpose-built for groomers. It’s also best suited to skiers with solid technique who prefer finesse and reactivity over brute-force dampness. If you ski aggressively in mixed or off-piste terrain, a wider and heavier ski will offer more support.

Fit & sizing considerations:

Skis true to size. Choose your usual frontside ski length for balanced performance. Lighter skiers or those focused on ultra-quick turns may size down slightly for extra agility.

Thoughts
Definitely a bit more suited to all mountain than to frontside in my opinion. Better for softer snow, maybe a western groomer ski where there’s not so much ice.
Little more torsional stiffness.
Overal Impression
These felt a bit underwhelming for me, as I was hoping for a nice carvy and precise ski with lots of grip, but these felt too torsionally soft to offer the grip needed for the conditions. The tips felt slow to engage.
