DESCRIPTION

All new for 2026, the Volkl Peregrine 78 takes it’s cues from the success of it’s big brother, the Peregrine 80, incorporating the power and precision of the Peregrine line in a narrower, more approachable ski that offers all the fun while requiring less skier input. With a shorter turn radius than its wider counterparts, the Peregrine 78 is a quick and agile ski that’s a great choice for those who want all the performance but prefer a more moderate pace.

Why we like it:

The Peregrine 78 opens up the Peregrine line to a broader range of skier types, and offers a ton of performance in a more forgiving ski.

Who it's for:

Intermediate skiers who are looking to improve their technique and progress on firm snow will find the Peregrine 78 suits their agenda, and advanced to expert skiers who prefer a more relaxed pace will also find there’s a lot to love here.

Highlights:

Volkl takes the shape and profile of the wider Peregrines and applies it to the 78, giving it their 3D Radius sidecut and subtle rocker/taper combo in the tip and tail. Together, these features make it easy to achieve a variety of turn shapes and give the skis a very maneuverable, confident feel. Instead of a Titanal band running down the center of the ski, the Peregrine 78 utilizes steel, which provides a slightly softer flex while ensuring the ski has that smooth and stable feel we know and love from Volkl.

Things to consider:

Skiers who are very aggressive will likely find the limit of the Peregrine 78 at high speeds, and should take a look at the 80 or 82 for added support and a more refined feel. The Peregrine 78 loses the Tailored Carbon Tips of the other models, and turn initiation won’t feel quite as precise as those wider Peregrines.

Fit & sizing considerations:

These ski true to size; selection should be made based on height, weight, and preferred terrain and skiing style.

Size Impression
I expected 163 to be too short. At worst it was “fine”, I’d go longer but I could live with th 163.

Thoughts
Frontside ski with a bit more versatility.
If I could make it a little damper I would.
Overal Impression
I expected the ski to be too short or too soft. It wasn’t either. The multi-radius shape is good because even though the ski can bang out short turns it’s pretty happy to cruise in a longer radius turn too.
