DESCRIPTION

New for 2026, the Volkl Shine 78 builds on the success of its bigger brother, the Peregrine 80. Designed to deliver the same power and precision in a narrower, more accessible format, the Shine 78 offers ladies an energetic ride and performance-driven feel, but with less demand on the skier. Its narrower waist and shorter turn radius make it nimble and intuitive, ideal for those who want high-level performance at a more relaxed pace.

Why we like it:

As the most versatile of the Shine lineup, the Shine 78 has a huge sweet spot for frontside skiers and will appeal to a large swath of women looking for a refined feel in an approachable ski.

Who it's for:

Advancing intermediate skiers aiming to hone their technique on groomed terrain will find the Shine 78 an excellent fit. Advanced and expert skiers who prefer a smoother, more laid-back ride will also appreciate what this ski brings to the table.

Highlights:

Volkl has adapted the proven shape and design of the wider Peregrines to the Shine 78, incorporating their signature 3D Radius sidecut and a subtle rocker/taper profile in the tip and tail. These elements make it easy to vary turn shapes while maintaining a confident, maneuverable feel. Instead of a central Titanal band, the Shine 78 uses steel for a slightly softer flex, catering to lighter skiers yet offering the smooth, stable ride Volkl is known for—just in a more approachable form.

Things to consider:

Very aggressive skiers may find the Shine 78 reaches its limits at higher speeds, as it’s designed for shorter turns at more moderate speeds. With a 78 mm waist and directional shape, the Shine 78 is clearly geared toward frontside skiing—powder and deep snow adventurers will want to look wider.

Fit & sizing considerations:

These ski true to size; selection should be made based on height, weight, and preferred terrain and skiing style.

Thoughts
Groomers, it was a little too narrow to be capable in soft snow.
Metal maybe? More energy, it felt very damp (but not in a good way) and boring.
Overal Impression
These were not my cup of tea, they just felt a bit underwhelming and rather unexciting. Nothing really stood out, other than how vanilla they felt! They also felt unstable during transitions from ice to corn, didn’t track well or charge through those corn piles.
