The 2023 Black Crows Divus Birdie is a narrower option in the Birdie line, focusing heavily on precision, control and technique. Bringing forth the approachability that is characteristic of many of the Black Crows skis, the Divus Birdie is built with a poplar wood core and dual H-shaped metal laminates positioned specifically along the length of the ski and ending where the rocker profile begins. This provides skiers with a strong and stable foundation for maximum edge grip yet with the playfulness and maneuverability of a softer flex in the tips and tails.

For a ski with an 82 mm waist width to have a rocker profile lands it in a more all-mountain/freeride category rather than a frontside/carving ski. We love how versatile the Divus Birdie is, making it a friendly ski that appeals to many different skiers and ones who want the ability to make clean, round turns but the flexibility to go off-piste and still have a fantastic time. The blend of attributes really makes the Divus Birde stand out to us and our testers.

Abby Maurice skied a 162 in length and absolutely loved the length for her. Reflecting that sentiment, she awarded 4’s out of 5 in every category, including overall impression. Before even hearing from Abby herself, we can easily proclaim that any ski that receives consistent scores across the board is one that is worth recognizing. In her own words, “Fours across the board. All around great ski. I would recommend this to an intermediate skier looking to improve their skills. It’s narrow underfoot but felt extremely stable and easy to manipulate. Holds edge in soft and hard conditions. I’d more than likely keep this ski in bounds on fair days but it can definitely bend and charge if need be. It’s quick and one of my favorites of the day.” A truly approachable ski with a range of capabilities, Abby said it all!

While there are certainly more front-side and racing options out there, the Divus Birdie strikes a nice balance between all-mountain versatility and carving performance. Most skiers spend most of their time on groomed and smooth surfaces, so it makes sense to have a conditions-appropriate ski that can handle the stuff skiers do the majority of the time. The Divus Birdie is an awesome choice for intermediates through less-aggressive experts who love the feeling of carving a clean and round turn and don’t want to sacrifice energy or rebound, but in a friendly manner.
