The Elan Ripstick 94 W continues to make a name for itself amongst the rest, thanks to a primary focus on all-mountain versatility. If you’re the type of skier who likes to ski bumps, trees and groomers while building total confidence, these skis are your secret weapon. Designed to do it all, the Ripstick 94s have a moderate waist width of 94 mm, giving it the ability to optimize flotation and carving. Constructed with a light weight wood core that maximizes maneuverability while providing torsional stability and powerful rebound all while reducing weight. Added carbon rods are also incorporated along the inside length of the ski in order to enhance weight savings and torsional stiffness and response. What this results in is a much stiffer flex and stronger edge grip to give skiers more carving control and optimal power. In combination with a short turning radius, rocker/camber profile, and designated right and left skis, you’re left with total precision and ultra-high-performance.

Alli Ruschp tested a pair of 170s and found them to be true to size, yet also noted that the 162 was great as well! Her scores were mostly 5’s with the exception of one 4 for flotation, proving her time spent on the Ripsticks was enjoyable, to say the least! When an all-mountain ski in the mid-90 waist width lacks slightly in flotation, it makes sense to us given the intended use and slightly narrower shape. That said, 5 out of 5 in all other categories, reflecting Alli’s positive experience and overall impression. She mentioned “another versatile ski option for Ladies. Wide range of abilities from intermediate to advanced. It amazes me that there is no metal in the ski, the carbon rods really dampen the ski and allow the skier to power the ski with confidence. Holds an edge on ice, when necessary, fun in a little powder, and nimble for the trees. I went with the 162 for myself because I like to ski the trees and bumps and have that shorter swing but the 170 would also work if I skied out west more often and the slopes are wider and you can carve larger turns. I think this is a perfect ski for a west coast vacation because you can hit the groomers but if there is a powder day you will still have fun and get the float and versatility you need.” Ann Macdonald was also on a pair of 170s and said they were perfect! With very similar scores to Alli’s, Ann also found the Ripsticks a delight, saying “This ski ripped like its name! I loved it on the groomers ripping GS turns… held its edge well and was forgiving and easy to initiate the turn from the tip. I would imagine it’s good in POW given how light it is. Also, would be great for touring! All over super ski for ripping chicks that want to do it all!”
Emily Crofton skied the 162s and noted they were true to size but too short for her personally. Her scores varied between 3 and 5, with the highest scores being awarded to stability, maneuverability, and torsional stiffness. From what we know about the Ripstick 94s, it makes sense why those specific categories would be highlighted given the notable edge hold and light-weighted nature. Where Emily thought they lacked was in flotation, playfulness, and versatility, with 3s designated for each. Her overall take on them was “I really liked the Ripsticks! I was initially thrown off by the length, as I normally ski a much longer length. Elan has designed right and left-specific skis featuring a full camber profile on the inside edges. I was curious to see if I would notice and immediately, I could tell- the ease at which I was able to transfer from edge to edge without hesitation was amazing. From quick to long arcing turns, they were eager to get on rails. I love maneuverable skis and I was able to pop, carve, and pick up speed on these. For a more aggressive skier, I would go up in length. Overall, I was very impressed with these skis and really enjoyed ripping them on fast groomers!” A very insightful review, highlighting its eagerness to lay trenches and engage in varying types of turn radius’. We also love to hear and highlight Elan’s intention behind the right and left-specific skis as that is highly unique!
The Elan Ripstick 94 W is a favorite among intermediate to advanced female skiers, with ample capabilities and a confidence-building personality. Light, nimble and powerful, they are a true delight to ski just about everything. All-mountain performance at its finest, this ski continues to receive praise and we can understand why!
