On the wide side of freeride fun, the Faction Prodigy 3x is a great choice for advanced and expert skiers who spend most of their time in the fresh and soft snow. If they’re not already there, then they’re likely on a permanent search for it. As a wider twin tip, the Prodigy 3x is an awesome choice for freeride skiers who love to a lot of different things out there on the hill. Built with a poplar wood core, these skis have a nice blend of light weight and snappy performance that allows for strong on-trail performance with floaty and drifty off-trail and an adventurous spirit. Twin tips, while traditionally known for being ideal choices for terrain park activity, have a lot more to them than just that. This Prodigy 3x will gain a huge following this year, offering a ton of versatility without being too demanding or difficult to use.

Allison Kozar skied the 164 and found it to be true to length. It’s pretty easy to tell when the tester really likes the ski, and that comes through in both Allison’s scoring as well as in her comments. She gave the ski all 5’s out of 5 from flotation all the way to overall impression. For a 106 underfoot twin tip, this is a pretty impressive spread of scores. Scores aside, she notes that “Oh my gourd! This is going to be my new favorite phatty! Super fun, super responsive, doesn’t allow chatter up the legs. Nice and maneuverable.” The combination of twin tipped shape and freeride-appropriate rocker allows this ski to float up and over chunked up conditions as well as staying on top of fresh and deep snow in a playful manner.

Also on the 164, Catherine Ferguson noted it felt just right, and like Allsion, Catherine had a lot of high scores to bestow upon this ski. She gave it 5’s out of 5 for overall impression, playfulness, quickness, and maneuverability. Versatility, flotation, stability, torsional stiffness, and edge hold all got 4’s. Catherine exclaims that “This ski was so much fun! It is super playful and can cut though any type of condition. It definitely is a can do it all type of ski. I liked how it was able to hold an edge but it also felt poppy and fun on the bumps and berms. This is an all-mountain ski that is good for anything! I would recommend this to an intermediate/expert skier.” Sometimes these slightly more forgiving skis are great for carving because they can bend to the skier’s whim and allow access to the entirety of the sidecut.

If you’re looking for a strong twin tip with a freeride shape and mentality, the Faction Prodigy 3x is a fantastic choice. You’ll get all you need from a floaty, smeary, and fun-loving ski that does it all, but especially on softer snow.
