Built for front side energetic carves, the 2023 K2 Disruption SC W is a fantastic choice for intermediate through expert skiers who want something that makes fantastic shorter turns without having that race-ski type of demand. By using carbon to make the energy rather than metal, K2 makes it easier and quicker to get the ski up on edge and through the turn. Built with an aspen veneer wood core, the skis also get Carbon I-Beam, Powerwall, and Dark Matter Damping in the tips.

At 74 mm underfoot, the SC W is super-quick from edge to edge, while still offering a slightly wider platform to stand on for balance. Since these skis aren’t based on a race-room model, K2 is able to build from the ground up and make a ski that they want to make. In the 160, we’re seeing a relatively short radius of 12.6-meters, which is right around a slalom cut, so if you’re a fan of linking short carved turns, the K2 Disruption SC W is the right tool for the job. Minimal tip rocker and zero taper combine to give this ski a smooth and long effective edge while focusing the energy mainly to the underfoot zone and the carbon laminate.
Brooke Mars skied the 160, noting that it felt just right, and skied true to size. Lots of high scores from Brooke on this one, including 5’s out of 5 for overall impression and playfulness. 4’s complete the card for versatility, torsional stiffness, edge hold, forgiveness, quickness, maneuverability, stability, and flotation. Brooke’s comments echo those scores fairly accurately: “I am obsessed with this ski. It’s perfect for my style of skiing and does well carving big long turns and is quick on lower angle short turns. This ski responds to aggressiveness and charges hard but will also hold an edge even if you’re holding back. Conditions today were firm and somewhat icy but this ski held on through all of it.” That’s the carbon talking there—holding firm to ice and hardpack while keeping the energy at a high level.
In reality, most skiers spend most of their time on groomed terrain. Having a ski that matches those conditions and terrain options makes a lot of sense, and that’s where something like the K2 Disruption SC W comes in handy. For women who love the feeling of a purely carved turn and the corresponding energy to link subsequent carves, the SC W is a prime choice.
