2024 K2 DISRUPTION MTI SKIS W MARKER MXCELL 12 TCX
Fast, fun, and fearless, the 2024 K2 Disruption MTi returns unchanged for this year, providing advanced and expert skiers an awesome option for pure front side skiing. At 74 mm underfoot, the skis are a bit too narrow for any real versatility as they definitely fit more in the groomer and smooth terrain zone. They have a whole lot going for them when it comes to advanced carving, and the most impressive part is that K2 is able to do this without the benefit of a race department to guide their way through these avenues of the sport. Instead, they focus on what they do well, which is adding stability and power through the lens of playfulness in order to achieve a desired effect. They do a great job with the Disruption MTi, as this ski is certainly a flagship model worthy of respect.

With a bit beefier of a build versus the other skis in the Disruption line, the MTi uses a blend of maple and aspen stringers to create a smooth and powerful feel overall. The maple does a great job of flexing without losing energy, and the aspen delivers pop and crispness to the mix. On top of the core, K2 uses their Titanal I-Beam that carries a lot of the load. This metal laminate is full width underfoot and tapers slightly in the tips and tails in order to add some fun to the mix. Given the square and cambered shape and profile of the ski, we think it’s a good thing that the metal isn’t full width throughout. To increase the damp and vibration-free feeling of the ski, K2 adds their Dark Matter Damping material that quiets and silences the chatter both in the tips and tails. This elastomer material is highly effective, since the ski definitely feels like it’s got some extra stuff going on with it. Underfoot, K2 adds another layer of stiffer and denser ABS material to the sidewalls to further the edge grip and torsional stiffness. All of this adds up to 1836 grams in the 175, which is slightly hefty but still agile.

With a flat and blunt nose and tail, this Disruption MTi has a very long effective edge and a super smooth feel to it. The 175 generates an 18.1-meter turn radius, which is on the long side for front side skis, and it is very comfortable at speed as a result. The skis do a whole lot of things very well in this realm, so feel free to open it up and let it run. It is narrow, so be aware that it does like to turn if it gets tipped up on edge, but other than that, it’s about as composed as it gets. With a slight tip rocker, it makes the initiation phase a bit easier, but doesn’t provide a whole lot when it comes to versatility or any type of all-mountain acumen. The shape of the MTi is certainly leaning to the carved turn side of the spectrum.
Skiers in the advanced and expert ranges will love the crisp and grippy performance of the 2024 K2 Disruption MTi. It’s a pretty specific ski for a pretty specific skier, so while we won’t see hundreds of them out there on the hill, if you’re looking for a front side ski that has a different personality and character than a normal de-tuned race ski, this one is worth a look.
