Somehow K2 is able to create a playful and flexible ski while having it feel sturdy and stout. K2 uses relatively sophisticated technology in construction here. Starting with an aspen microblock wood core, K2 achieves a lightweight, energetic start. The core is wrapped in triaxial fiberglass to provide stiffness and responsiveness, taking the flex pattern up a notch. From there, we get carbon boost strips in the central portion of the ski, as well as carbon spectral braiding that we see used in the Mindbender series. This application of carbon allows K2 to fine-tune the level of stiffness in various sections of the ski. With the braiding pattern looser in the forebody and tail, with a tighter pattern underfoot, the extremities of the ski deliver greater maneuverability and flexibility, giving it that freestyle nature. Where we see the extra material and sturdier construction attributes is in the tip and tail, with a thicker core profile and thicker sidewalls. Tester Steph Lawee notes: "I enjoyed this ski much more than I thought I would on a firm day. It feels durable and can hold an edge. It feels balanced, solid and forgiving for skiing both backwards and forwards, and I would feel comfortable taking it into the park!"
The Rocker / Camber / Rocker profile of the 2027 K2 Reckoner 102 WIt's rare that a 102 mm underfoot ski can feel both narrow and wide at the same time. While this width certainly performs well in soft snow conditions, we also have seen how well it does in the park and on groomers. With wider options in the Reckoner family, notably the 110, this model offers a hint of directional performance, which adds to its versatility. With 134 mm tips and 127 mm tails, it's not perfectly symmetrical but pretty close. The 163 cm length generates a 14.3-meter turn radius, which for its width, makes quick turn shapes, especially when you factor in the flex. Enjoy the Reckoner 102 W’s performance skiing forward and backwards, as well as directly center given the flex and shape. As for profile, the rocker in the tip and tail adds to its maneuverability and responsive nature, adding even more fun into the mix.
