2027 Liberty Scope 94

ski test sidebar

The 2027 Liberty Scope 94 is a fun-loving freeride twin that has a good split of park performance to go along with all-mountain entertainment. We get some tech updates for 2027, most notably the return of bamboo stringers in the core. That brings it a bit closer to the older Liberty’s, and with that bamboo, a smooth and predictable flex and feel. These skis are quite silent in nature, which is impressive given how light and flexible they are. Those things don’t normally go together, so Liberty gives us a unique feel within the Scope line. At 94 mm underfoot, this Scope in particular is highly useful and incredibly fun.

Poplar/Bamboo Wood Core, Carbon, Carbon Stringers, Fiberglass

For this season, the Scope 94 uses a mix of poplar and bamboo in the wood core to power the ski. Liberty’s Recoil Core also uses a phenolic composite plate in the binding zone to stiffen the underfoot portion and provide increased edge grip while leaving the tips and tails alone to be more playful. Liberty also uses carbon stringers that extend tip to tail to boost that energy and maintain pop and zip when you’re leaning into carved turns. By pouring ABS sidewalls, we get a thick and insulated feel in the ski that counteracts the chatter and vibrations normally felt with such a light and playful ski. Tester Matt McGinnis notes: “Overall, I really liked this ski, and it’s probably the most fun I’ve ever had on a Liberty ski. This year’s version of the Scope sees a reintroduction of bamboo, but more importantly, contains carbon stringers. Those stringers give this ski a level of energy and response to input that I found really impressive.”

The Rocker / Camber / Rocker profile of the 2027 Liberty Scope 94

These Scope 94’s have a well-rounded shape that allows them to be used in both a park and all-mountain format. Those two realms, when combined, are very satisfying for skiers who are mixing applications and styles. We talk a lot about twin tips in the mid-90's, being highly useful for skiers who have freestyle backgrounds but aren’t 100% committed to park skiing all day long. They use a twin tip style with decent rocker and round taper in tips and tails. They’re more directional in nature, featuring a sidecut split of 130/94/119. That drop of 11 mm from tip to tail width isn’t as symmetrical as park-specific skis, so you can expect more of an all-mountain feel in terms of shape. While the 180 creates a 19-meter turn radius, the flex allows the ski to make all sorts of different turn shapes and styles—it's not locked in at all to any particular curve. McGinnis continues to note that “For a 94 waisted, all mountain twin tip, I found this ski to be surprisingly capable on firm groomers at high speeds.”

This ski feels both stable and playful.

These construction updates take the Scope 94 into a bit more of a stable realm as we feel many skiers found the previous, or initial, Scope 94 to be on the softer side of the spectrum. With increased pep, edge grip, and a smoother overall feel, these directional twins are the perfect companion for freestyle skiers who do not want to feel locked in to park only skiing. It’s also a great introductory ski for those who are park curious but maybe don’t want full commitment to that zone of the mountian.

Solid technical skills, mixed with a park background. I'm not the sendiest guy on the hill, but I'll take my share of calculated airs. It's all about finding small transitions and controlling speed for me. Rather than chargey, I'd describe myself as surfy. Lots of edge work and turning skis sideways to manage speed. I enjoy working with the flex pattern of a ski as much as the camber/rocker profile or sidecut of it.

What's your first impression of this ski? How did it feel?
Overall, I really liked this ski, and it’s probably the most fun I’ve ever had on a Liberty ski. This year’s version of the Scope sees a reintroduction of bamboo, but more importantly, contains carbon stringers. Those stringers give this ski a level of energy and response to input that I found really impressive. For a 94 waisted, all mountain twin tip, I found this ski to be surprisingly capable on firm groomers at high speeds.
For what type of terrain would you recommend this ski? Why does it perform well in that terrain?
I would expect this ski to perform well in the park, but I didn’t get a chance to test it there. With that in mind, I can say that it performed very well at high speeds on hard snow, leading me to believe that it would make an excellent all mountain twin tip option. The carbon stringers provide a level of stability and energy that allow it to excel beyond just the park.
What's the appropriate ability level and/or style for this ski? Why is it appropriate for that type of skier?
Anyone from intermediate up could have a good time on this ski, depending on the application. If you’re someone who wants a ski that you can rip all around the mountain for half a day, and take into the park for the other half, this would be a good choice for you. If you’re more of a specialist, meaning you prefer only park, or only bumps, or only steep trails, etc - there’s likely a better option than specializes in what you prefer. If you’re a freestyle inclined generalist though, the Scope 94 is an excellent choice.
Anything else you want to tell us about your experience on these skis?
Best Liberty ski I’ve ever been on - would absolutely recommend giving it a shot.
