2027 Stockli Montero AS

The 2027 Stockli Montero AS is a carryover ski for this year featuring the same profile, shape, construction, and graphics as last year. This ski continues to be a shorter-turning all-mountain ski for accomplished skiers looking for that Montero feel but in a narrower overall package. Even so, compared to many other Stockli skis, the 76 mm waist is kind of on the wide side. Skiers get the whole Stockli feel here, with total and complete silence in a variety of conditions and terrain. These are great in the bumps, awesome in the groomers, and make clean and round turns with poise, confidence, and ease. With short and sporty turns as high marks here, our testers loved the smoothness and top gear potential of the AS.

Stockli puts all of their amazing sophistication into the Montero construction. Built with an all-mountain core consisting of poplar and beech, the Montero AS leans more into the lighter poplar to create a more manageable feel. We get two sheets of metal in this ski, and we also get Tip and Tail Flex technology. In this, Stockli carves curved slits into the top layers of metal in the tips and tails. This allows for the ski to articulate with more ease, creating better slow speed compliance. When you’re going fast, it creates a supple feel, but going slow, it makes it easier to get the ski up on higher edge angles without pushing too hard. Tester Zach Arvin notes that "This made me feel like I was under the lights in Solden for a WC Race. The edge contact was phenomenal, and I could play them down."

The overall footprint of these skis is more centered around sporty carving than anything else. At 76 mm underfoot, this is on the wide front side realm. The shape definitely leans more into the on-piste side of the spectrum while being a bit wider for better balance and confidence. Stockli markets this ski as an “all-mountain slalom” ski and that’s about right from what we can tell. The profile uses a tiny bit of tip and tail rocker, but certainly not enough to put it on the floaty side. The camber is the bigger story here, both in length and height, delivering a smooth feel from tip to tail and a lot of energy. In the 172, the ski uses measurements of 127/76/107 mm to generate a 14.8-meter turn radius—right in the mid-range for front side skis in the mid-70's. Tester Finn Murphy calls them " Very quick edge-to-edge and fun to carve. It felt lighter on foot than I expected, so it was fun to play around on—definitely one of the more versatile all-mountain carvers."

This ski is highly useful for on-piste enthusiasts looking for energy, smoothness, and precision. We’re excited to see the Montero AS come into its own, providing a wonderful middle ground between the AX and the narrower Laser series of skis. This AS will provide advanced and expert skiers with a very quick and agile option that works well at a variety of speeds. While it’s a bit less versatile than the wider skis in this range, it’s at home on smooth and firm snow and in shorter turns. With all the Stockli silence and precision, the AS is a fun ski that blends accessibility and high performance.
