2025 Atomic Bent 100 On Snow Ski Review

DECEMBER 5, 2024 | WRITTEN BY Jeff Neagle

It’s not exactly breaking news at this point, but for 2025, we get a new Bent 100 from Atomic. It’s not even the first time we’ve reviewed it, actually, as we put together an on-snow review last season from down at Pico Mountain during an industry demo event. Regardless, there’s a lot of talk about this new ski, and we’ve seen the discussions range from purely positive to quite negative at times. In that light and with some above-average early season conditions at Stowe, we took the opportunity to revisit this ski.

Is it the strongest carving ski in its width range? Certainly not, and from what we’ve seen, it’s when viewing it through this lens does any negativity come up. With a ski like the Bent 100, it’s important to really understand its purpose, who it’s meant for, what it does well, and when you can match your mindset to the attributes of the ski, it becomes obvious why it’s such a popular ski.

The Bent 100 is not a fancy ski. While it has been updated for 2025, its build and overall formula is not complex. It has a relatively simple wood core, it’s lighter than most, and it’s also softer than most. The 2025 version does feel a bit more robust overall, but it still lies much more on the playful side of the performance spectrum in the 100 mm width range. Perhaps the most significant change for 2025 is the introduction of more tail rocker and a redesigned HRZN Tech. The combination gives the ski easier release out of the tail, which comes in handy often, especially where we live and ski, and feels like it not only matches, but enhances the existing personality of the ski.

I had a wonderful time revisiting this ski this morning at Stowe. Bob actually owns a pair of his own now, as was featured in his recent quiver video. He’s been on it non-stop since the start of the season, although for full transparency, that’s only been three days. Still, over those three days, several conversations have emerged about the Bent 100.

What does it do well? A lot, to be honest. Simply put, it makes skiing very fun. Exploring the early-season terrain at Stowe, we found ourselves constantly looking side hits, mini mogul lines, little groomer spines, and anything else we could turn into a feature. It’s extremely cliche, but it’s one of those skis that turns the mountain into a playground. The flex pattern is soft, but not so soft that you can’t trust it. There’s also enough feedback from the flex pattern that you can use it to your advantage in a lot of situations. You can load up a lot of energy in the tail of the ski, which comes in handy when finishing shorter, snappier turns, when popping off natural hits, or just any situation where you quickly need to get off the ground, even if just for a split second.

It’s also quicker than its width might indicate. Edge to edge it feels like a narrower ski, which combines with the energy from the flex to give it a very agile nature. Natural snow trails at Stowe right now still have a good amount of debris, rocks, stumps, and other obstacles. The quickness of the Bent 100 made maneuvering through those hazards far easier than most other skis in its category. In my opinion, that’s been enhanced by the increased tail rocker. It’s so gosh darn easy to get this ski sideways. It’s a characteristic it shares with the Bent Chetler 120, which effortlessly flicks around in powder. The Bent 100 just does it in variable conditions too. With all those hazards out there, it also is important to be able to dump speed at a moment’s notice, and there are only a handful of skis in the 100 mm category that can get sideways so quickly. It’s a nice feature.

Bob put it well today when he said something like, “the Bent 100 isn’t a stable ski, but if you’re a stable skier, you can ski it fast.” I think that’s a great way to think about it. If you’re relying on the ski to keep you upright and/or you’re used to really throwing your weight forward over the shovels of your ski, it will be tough for you. If you’re used to softer flexing skis, twin tips, and the skiing style that goes along with it, you’ll be fine skiing fast and aggressively on it. You can’t expect too much edge grip, but in a straight-line format, it goes. It can get deflected as it’s pretty lightweight, so be aware of that, but with its maneuverability and relatively loose feel, it’s always easy to get it back underneath you.

We’ve talked a lot about how well the Bent 100 performs in bumps and trees, and it’s the combination of these attributes that make it so good. It’s quick, it’s easy to stay in control, and if you’re skiing with purpose and deliberately, it rarely flinches. If you start skiing with reckless abandon and expect the ski to be some kind of get-out-of-jail-free card, you’ll find a limit.

Then there’s the carving stuff. To be honest, it’s somewhat surprising how much discussion we see around the Bent 100 and carving. Is it the best carving ski out there? Certainly not. Can it carve? Of course it can, even a foam core rental ski can carve. Is there a limitation to torsional stiffness? Yes, and you can find that limit relatively easily on very firm conditions, but if you’re buying a Bent 100 with the purpose of doing a lot of frontside carving, you’re simply considering the wrong ski. If you want a twin tip that outperforms it in a carving format, there are several options. So, while its carving abilities are not winning any awards, it really doesn’t bother us at all. We’re too busy skiing bumps, trees, finding side hits, skiing the park, and having fun on the Bent 100 to worry much about its lack of high speed carving.
