The 2023 Liberty Evolv 84 W is an amazing choice for ladies who spend most of their time on groomed terrain, but who are also looking for something that can provide some adventure and fun in the off-piste zones as well. Returning structurally similar to last year, we get a graphics recharge for this season. Thanks to the addition of the VMT 3.0 construction, the Evolv 84 W gets a boost in power with three vertical metal struts in the core. These struts are sandwiched between energetic poplar wood, which is sandwiched between stringers of bamboo and paulownia wood. Carbon stringers round out the burliness and power of the build, allowing for an impressive amount of power and stability in these well-rounded skis. At 84 mm underfoot, we’re dealing with some versatility, but not a whole lot, especially in terms of powder performance, but they do really, really like softer groomers. For skis that are built and designed in Colorado, this is a very nice thing, and it makes a lot of sense.

Allarie Sullivan skied the 158 and notes it is true to size. She gave the ski top marks of 5 out of 5 for forgiveness, playfulness, quickness, and maneuverability. 4’s went for overall impression, versatility, stability, and flotation. Lower scores of 3 for torsional stiffness and edge hold round out her scorecard. She calls it “Soft from edge to edge, light and forgiving, but not floppy or chattery. Would love some more snow to play on but the ski doesn't force you to charge on the groomed stuff.” It’s that type of well-roundedness that makes the 84 W so incredibly attractive.
Brooke Mars liked her 158, noting that it’s a good size for her. She gave it a top mark of 5 out of 5 for flotation, and a 4 for stability. Lower scores of 2 out of 5 showed themselves for overall impression, torsional stiffness, edge hold, and forgiveness. Brooke notes that this is “Not a good ski for beginners. In order for me to get any response or reaction I had to force myself to push forward harder than usual, which could get very tiring as the day goes on. Was not impressed with the edging capabilities and didn’t feel like it was able to stay engaged on harder surfaces. May be good on a powder day?” Probably not as good as a wider ski, but it’s understandable how she feels this way. Evan Kerin skied the 165, and he’s a lighter skier who uses shorter skis, so it’s fine for him to test and evaluate the Evolv 84 W for sure. He notes that “The Evolve 84 is a pretty versatile ski. This ski flies on groomers and does well on a day like today. Not the most forgiving but still lots of fun.”
The Liberty Evolv 84 W is an amazing ski from this Colorado ski company, and since it has the more freeride character to it, it feels different from other skis in the mid-80's range. Whether you’re in Vermont or Vail, groomers or off-piste, the burly Evolv 84 W has a great new build that’s going to make a lot of skiers quite happy.
