In the all-mountain category, there are some skis that are just more freeride-oriented, and the 2023 Liberty Genesis 96 is just one of those skis. Upgraded last year with the VMT 1.0 core, the skis are built with a blend of poplar, bamboo, and paulownia wood for the best possible combination of high energy and light weight. For this season, they get a graphics update, but remain the same strong and stable fun-loving skis. The metal strut that runs the center of the ski is responsible for delivering stability to the ski, and making it damper and quieter for more energetic skiing and higher performance. At 96 mm underfoot, these skis are right in the Goldilocks zone for being able to carve on groomers, float through powder, and be used in a variety of conditions and terrain for a huge swath of skiers. If you’re looking for that one-ski quiver that can handle it all, look no further than the Liberty Genesis 96.

Ann MacDonald found her 165 cm test length to be “really small,” but she’s also a fan of the longer skis, so we’re not that surprised to hear this type of reaction, especially when given the rocker and playful nature of the ski. Regardless, Ann gave it all 4’s out of 5 on her card, which is a very high average baseline for any ski, and it makes sense that those scores would be attributed to a mid-90's all-mountain/freeride ski like this. “Tested a ski that was too small and it skied short so I tried to give it the benefit and actually once I figured it out it was really fun. I liked it on big radius turns… stable and held its edge well. Not super lively and poppy but hard to tell at that length… I felt like I was going over the tips of them. Probably a good ski for a variety of abilities and has a “cool factor” being an Indy brand.” We’re glad that Ann was able to find some things to like about this ski.
Also on the 165, Louise Lintilhac found it short, scoring it 3’s out of 5 for stability and flotation. 4’s run the table the rest of the way, mainly echoing Ann’s scores and reenforcing the notion that these Genesis 96’s are quite versatile and well-rounded at a high level. Louise states that “This ski is super approachable and fast edge to edge. I’d recommend sizing us as it can get over skied quickly in variable conditions, but the mid fat waist combined with its maneuverability will appeal to those looking for an easy to ski all mountain driver.” Abby Maurice wouldn’t go longer than her 165 cm test ski. She gave it a top score of 5 out of 5 for versatility with 4’s for all other categories. “This ski performs well on all terrain and moves quickly and lightly through variable conditions- probably the most versatile and playful skis I tested. It's rockered poppy shape makes it appropriate for freestyle and tricks, as well as giving you a floatiness through trees. I would feel confident purchasing the Genesis 96 for my 'take anywhere' ski. The narrower waist width and slightly heavier weight gave me the confidence to roll over just about anything.”
For skiers looking for a one-ski quiver that knows no bounds, the Liberty Genesis 96 is the ideal stick. Thanks to last season’s upgrades to the construction and a lot of fun built in, these skis will take your game to the next level, and there’s no doubt about that. From steeps and trees to bumps and groomers, these skis will do it all and smile in the process.
