The Black Crows Camox Birdie is back for the 2025 season and for those who value all-mountain performance in a forgiving, playful, intuitive package, this is a highly versatile option. We see the success of Black Crows skis season after season, with the same simple approach and uniquely fun shapes. With the exception of new graphics, the recipe here works, and really well at that. So why go and change it? In the case of the Camox Birdie, this all-terrain tool combines a freestyle-inspired shape with a predictable flex and maneuverable feel, appealing to a wide audience of skiers who want a lively ski without sacrificing on-piste confidence.

With a minimalist approach to the construction, a poplar wood core is sandwiched between fiberglass laminates, producing a progressive, semi-soft flex pattern. Finding this happy medium as far as stiffness, matched with an energetic, playful feel, is what gives the Camox Birdie such appeal. Liveliness from the poplar, stiffness from the fiberglass- the materials complement each other really nicely, delivering a smooth, consistent ride with plenty of room for creativity and adventure. Plus, with relatively lightweight materials, we’re getting 1700 grams in the 168.1 cm length, which is ideal for all-mountain performance. Feedback from a variety of our testers echo the impressive balance of stiffness/playfulness in this ski, which is what Black Crows was hoping to achieve in this all-mountain ski.

The Rocker / Camber / Rocker profile of the 2025 Black Crows Camox Birdie

Shape-wise, we’re clearly seeing some freestyle inspiration given the rocker profile in the tip and tail. This allows the ski to feel effortlessly maneuverable, especially when initiating a turn. The generous amount of camber underfoot is where the directional attitude comes in, providing exceptional edge grip and pronounced energy. Before entering a turn, the ski is already pre-loaded with so much energy that going from edge to edge is quick and a whole lot of fun. This also transfers over to off-piste performance as they are lively in the bumps and have a great release at the end of a turn. As tester Katherine Stevens found, they were “a very versatile ski. Could ski powder woods, moguls or rip groomers on these. Good all mountain ski.” With a 19-meter turn radius, they prefer to make longer, wider turn shapes but given the shape and build, they can be quick and easy to control as well.

It was great! Probably my favorite ski of the week.
Katherine Stevens

The Camox Birdie is one of those skis where you can’t really go wrong. Making a lot of sense for a lot of different skiers, the intuitive flex pattern matched with an energetic, playful feel and all-mountain shape lands this ski in the wider-bodied category with ample amount of versatility.
