Skiers who are not afraid of huge mountain peaks and bottomless snow will love the 2025 Volkl Revolt 121. With a new topsheet but the same powder-specific shape, the super-wide Volkl Revolt 121 is an incredibly floaty ski that will satisfy the needs of the most demanding big mountain freeriders. This ski is built and shaped to be used in the deepest snows on the planet, from bottomless spring and packed snow to deep and fresh blower powder. This ski has been around for a few years now and has become a favorite of pro skiers who find themselves out in the middle of nowhere with nothing but a blank snow canvas below their feet. Best suited to snow cat, heli, and snowmobile approaches, this ski doesn’t have a huge touring application—it takes some non-human power to lug this ski to the top. When you get there, though, you’ll be rewarded with some of the most dramatic and amazing powder performance ever. With tons of splay and monster rocker, this ski is unique in scope and narrow in audience.

While there’s not a ton of tech that goes into this ski, there’s certainly a lot of beef. Built with a Multilayer wood core consisting of poplar and beech, the Revolt 121 has a thick profile overall, and that leads to a large amount of mass. In the shortest 177 cm length, the skis hit the scale at 2220 grams, so in the 191, that’s going to be quite a lot of weight underfoot. Thankfully, the shape and profile add to this behemoth's agility, but the construction is mostly simple. It’s a full sidewall underfoot and that extends thickly to the ends of the ski where a Mini Cap build takes over from there in order to provide the slightest bit of flex and compliance. This ski also features a thicker and stiffer base to provide more stiffness and durability, and that’s a welcome addition to an otherwise simple build. Tester Michael Fritz notes that during our test the Revolt 121 was “Awesome for the day. Skied it in 10 inches of wind-blown pow and groomers. The shape makes it really maneuverable while staying on top of the snow.”

The Rocker / Camber / Rocker profile of the 2025 Volkl Revolt 121

The build of the ski may not be outlandish, the rest of the ski surely is. When we look at the profile of this ski, it really starts to make sense as to its application. It’s very one-dimensional, but in that dimension, there’s not a whole lot like it out there in the industry. There’s a ton of tip rocker, tip splay, and early taper, and all of those things add up to mega flotation. We do see camber underfoot, and that’s a great way to get the ski to hold tight if the snow conditions or terrain enter the technical side of the spectrum. But in the tail, we get right back to the task at hand. There’s just a whole lot of bend back there, and it makes a lot of sense when you consider the narrow application of the 121. It does feature Volkl’s 3D Radius Sidecut, but in a very slender manner. The ski basically produces a 19-meter turn radius in the 184, and that’s on the slightly turny side for a ski this wide. The long taper here is the culprit, bringing the widest parts of the ski closer to the feet and thus closing off the ends of the ski that results in the longer effective edge and turn shape. Tester Pete Fox states that the ski has “Outstanding float and very nimble in tight trees, a great east coast pow weapon. Soft in the right spots but stiff enough to deal with variability in snow conditions.”

Big mountain weapon, if you want a ski for the steep and deep this it. Great float, nimble in deep snow in the trees, but unforgiving on a groomed trail runout.
Pete Fox

Wide, fat, and totally floaty, this is an amazing deep snow ski. If you’re looking for a powder ski to end all discussions, look no further than the 2025 Volkl Revolt 121. This is likely the last fat ski you’ll ever need—we're not quite sure where they’ll go from this. It’s hard to imagine a world in which there will be a much wider, much more effective ski when it comes to deep and bottomless snow, but we’ve been wrong before. If you’re in the market for the widest, most bowed-out freeride ski on the planet, the Volkl Revolt 121 is one of the best in a very small group. With a great new graphic and a ton of surface area, Revolt 121 projects an attitude of playful seriousness no matter how deep the snow gets.

Surprisingly versatile for its width. Fun, surprisingly playful ski that eats up pow, chop and crud. Windblown Sisler star!
