2027 Head Supershape e-Rally

For 2027, the Head Supershape e-Rally continues its path as a dominant frontside carver. As one of the more versatile frontside skis out there, the Rally has developed something of a cult following. With a waist approaching 80 mm and a race like build, this ski is a wider-bodied carver that can be employed almost anywhere on the mountain. While some of the Supershape skis are more adherent to the stated and shorter turn radius, these Rally’s can be opened up and used at higher speeds with little to no consequence. They’re smooth and easy to turn but have an impressive ceiling when it comes to power and stability. As always, the blend of shape, profile, and construction bring the Rally to the forefront of the wide frontside discussion. This ski feels intuitive and properly connected to the snow.

The Supershape series benefits greatly from their robust race department. Head’s wood core remains the same—very dense and sturdy wood stringers are glued together with graphene strips on top and bottom. This allows for a strong build and a good foundation for endless power and edge grip on firm snow. We get two sheets of metal as well, bringing the dampness of the ski to the next level. If that wasn’t enough, Head also employs their Energy Management Circuit to the mix to electronically distribute unwanted vibrations. Whether this works the way they say or not, we don’t really care or know, but the ski is incredibly smooth with no chatter, so we’ll give it to them for innovation. The Crossforce Carbon layer underfoot stiffens the mid body of the ski to create more grip and stiffness in the middle of the ski. It gives the Rally an undeniable snap out of the turn and increases the rigidity and responsiveness in the middle of the ski to boost grip. Tester Emily Sampson notes that “This ski felt like it would be great for retirement. Short turns felt snappy and quick but at higher speeds, they felt less confident in this length. Given they were a 170, bigger GS turns were not on the menu. On flatter terrain, rolling over felt easy. A forgiving ski, you can slide it or carve it and enjoy yourself.”

While some skiers still think that super narrow is the only way to go for a frontside ski, the Rally pokes some holes in that theory. At 78 mm underfoot, this ski is getting to that 80 mm threshold where we start talking about all-mountain capabilities. We’ve noted for a while now that skis in this 76-80 mm zone are incredibly useful for a huge range of skiers who spend most or all of their time on groomers. There’s no real need to go much wider than this if you ski in a place that has a lot of groomers and on-piste terrain. Even if you venture off somewhere, this ski will still take you where you want to go. That said, it’s fully cambered, so in anything remotely soft, it’s going to want to find the bottom and hook into a carved turn. With a 14-meter turn radius in the 170, these skis are in the mid-radius zone between SL and GS, putting more emphasis on the skier and their decision-making process. There’s no taper to speak of, resulting in a long effective edge and a smooth overall ride. This is great news for skiers that like to link those carved turns from end to end all the way down. Despite the stated radius, we’ve found the Rally to be willing to find the longer arc and ride the ski in a flatter way than the narrower Supershape skis. Speed can be your friend on the Rally for sure. Jeff Neagle states that he “Always loves skiing the Rally! This ski is probably my favorite of the Supershape series, although I like the Titan a lot too. It's incredible skiing a carving ski of this caliber, especially if you're like me and spend a lot of time on twin tips. Laying over turns on a Supershape Rally just feels so good. It's stiff, so you need to have good technique, but the turn radius and the shape make it really, really fun to ski. You get to feel like a ski racer, without having to deal with all the things actual ski racers deal with like long turn radii and super narrow skis. Really fun. Not something I'd want to ski every day, but every time I ski it, I walk away very satisfied.”

Skiers looking for wide frontside performance are in the right place. This is mainly an advanced and expert ski, and it mostly wants to be used at a relatively aggressive pace. Speed is a friend here, especially if you’re looking for excellent energy and rebound. Shorter turns are easy to come by but prefer a more moderate pace. If you’re looking to increase and boost your carving game and want no limits on speed, this Rally is worth a square look. As it approaches 80 mm underfoot, skiers who want that wider platform for balance and versatility will find big benefits here. The 2027 Head Supershape e-Rally continues to be a popular ski for very good reasons.
