2027 Nordica Dobermann Multipista 80 DC

Fresh on the heels of the resounding success of last year’s Multipista DC at 74 mm underfoot, we now get a new width in this line—the Multipista 80. With an additional 6 mm of overall width, these skis do a bit more in terms of blending front side and all-mountain, although it’d be slightly unfair to consider these totally versatile for how well they behave on groomers and in firmer snow. They have the same build as the other skis in the Dobermann line but add some roundness and smoothness to the shape and style. With slight rocker in the tips and tails, these skis will be a bit more drifty when a break from a pure carve is needed. All the things we loved about the Multipista 74 carry forward into this 80 but with more of an eastern all-mountain lean.

Built with Nordica’s Double Core Technology, the Multipista uses two horizontal laminates of wood, a pulse core layer in between, and two sheets of metal. The horizontal use of wood combined with the pulse core creates an incredibly smooth and energetic blend of performance attributes. With two sheets of metal, this ski is all there and delivers powerful edge grip and a relatively approachable character. Tester Matt McMannus notes that “These skis were fun on frontside groomers for carving medium arcs, where they held an edge and powered through the turns nicely. Good rebound coming out of the turn and easy to initiate. Once in a turn they liked to hold it, making carvers easier than short turns, although they were fairly good in short turns, just required a bit more effort to finish quickly rather than holding the turn in a longer arc. Really fun carving at speed and felt stable but energetic in faster, longer turns. These were one of the more fun skis for carving turns on groomers. While they weren’t super quick edge to edge for short turns, they were great to carve mid to longer arcs. Might have been different if I was on a shorter pair.” Not too stiff, not too soft, these are right in the sweet spot when it comes to delivering uncompromising power to the edges of the skis.

The shape is where these stand out as there aren’t too many front side focused skis that operate with this much smoothness and versatility. If we’re seeing an 80 mm underfoot ski with two sheets of metal, most skiers will automatically assume it’s front side only. Multipista takes that and turns it around a bit, offering strong mogul performance and decent off-piste vibes that make it kind of insanely fun. We wouldn’t recommend them for a pure powder day, but we’ve certainly had success in variable conditions and all sorts of different terrain. The skis use a 16.6-meter turn radius in the 180 cm length, and we’ve found that they make all sorts of turn shapes and styles. Tester Holly Anderson states: “My first impression was love lol but really that this ski felt smooth, stable, and very predictable. It was easy to get it up on edge and trust it through the turn, especially on firmer groomed terrain. It has a strong, composed feel without being overly demanding, which made it approachable while still feeling high performance. I personally loved this ski and would use it as my daily driver. I would recommend this ski primarily for groomed terrain and on-piste skiing. It's perfect for most NE groomers.”

The Multipista 80 is a sneaky ski. It’s one of those skis that we keep pushing its boundaries in the effort to find its limits. Testing skis this way is incredibly fun because we keep seeing what else it can do and bringing it into variable conditions and funky terrain just because we can. We do think that there’s more of an advanced and expert component here although if an intermediate or progressing skier sizes down, they’ll likely also find fun and success.
