2027 Volkl Peregrine V-Werks

For 2027, the Volkl Peregrine VWerks gets a slightly new graphic but returns otherwise unchanged. The VWerks line within Volkl is known for being more of an experimental or prototypical brand within a brand. In the case of the Peregrine VWerks, they use a lighter core and more carbon than the non-VWerks models, which makes them slightly more approachable while still containing a very high-performance ceiling. At 84 mm underfoot and with a relatively flat camber profile, these skis are more well-rounded than one may expect, capable of dealing with adverse conditions and terrain with ease, especially when considering their incredible on-piste performance. We've had them in some inconsistent snow over the years and we continue to be impressed with the end result.

Thanks to the innovation used, Volkl is able to bring light weight and high performance together seamlessly. Built with their hybrid wood core consisting of lighter wood, Volkl adds a titanal frame to the mix. This frame takes the place of two full sheets by using the metal in more of a strategic manner. As a result, Volkl keeps its weight down. The skis also use tailored carbon tips and tails to go along with 3D Ridge and 3D Glass. Volkl puts it all out there with the VWerks, and this not only contributes to this ski’s poise and on-trail prowess, but it also adds to Volkl’s line from a development standpoint. By putting their latest and greatest technological advancements and sophistication out there on the snow, they’re pushing forward and putting their best stuff on the hill. Tester Rich O'Brien says that "This ski was a rocket ship, and could hang in all of the carves, regardless of snow. Really, edgy, strong hold, and good confidence. Really love how damp, grippy, and overall confident I felt on these. Really powerful skis without being overwhelming."

The footprint of these skis definitely skews towards frontside performance despite the overall width. These VWerks 84’s fit quite well in a carving and on-piste format, but their shape and flatter profile allow them to work well in an all-mountain format, too. With measurements of 132/84/115, the skis utilize a 3D Radius to generate splits of 24/15/21-meters in the 177 cm length. This puts more emphasis on longer turns at lower edge angles and shorter turns when focused on the center. It’s a very natural and pleasing way of using the multi-radius design, and it works quite well with Peregrine VWerks. The flatter profile with long and low rocker in the tips and tails assists with the easy nature of the 3D Radius—if there were more camber, it’d be more difficult to tap into various turn shapes and styles. Greg Petrics notes that "This ski is a piste ski that can also handle the whole mountain short of an overhead powder day. I LOVED THIS SKI. I wasn't expecting this ski to have so much on piste performance. Usually a carbon ski chatters, but this was stable and had layer upon layer of edge grip. If I had to pick on ski to have and nothing else, it might very well be this. At 84mm underfoot it can handle a lot of crud and pow and bumps, but it's also not too wide that it can't ski groomers. In fact, I was AMAZED how high the on-piste performance of this ski was."

We've had some really fun times on these skis over the years, and so far, they've stood the test of time. Poppy, grippy, and insanely fun, the 2027 Volkl Peregrine VWerks is a technological marvel. These skis handle a lot of strong skiing with a lower weight. All things being equal, if you can get top-end performance at a lower weight, that’s a mark of a good product. You don’t get tired or fatigued on these skis, as there are much heftier and more demanding options in this width throughout the ski industry. They can cut and run through crud and choppy snow equally as well as they can carve and grip on firm snow, and that's a fairly rare combination at this width.
